System Engineer
Job Overview
Top level contributor and technical expert in Windows, Linux/Unix, and virtualization. The System Administrator understands other contributing technologies required to deliver services on all platforms. The System Administrator will be responsible for the overall integration and integrity of the enterprise-wide network including the planning, design, installation, maintenance, management, and security of the Windows, Unix and Linux systems.
Responsibilities
- Performs server administration tasks, including group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly
- Handles first level on-call rotation for Systems Engineering team
- Documents configurations, instructional procedures, change management records
- Works with hardware and software vendors, including support calls and maintenance performed by vendor engineers
- Monitors datacenter health using preexisting management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers as needed
- Researchs, manages, and tracks system patching processes
- Mentors and cross-trains fellow System Administrators
- Works with the company trouble ticketing system and provides end user support
- Manages work orders to meet or exceed SLAs
- Creates and maintains server configuration and disaster recovery documentation
- Tracks industry trends and maintains knowledge of new technologies to better serve the enterprise’s architecture needs
- Works within ITIL framework for incident management and change process
- Monitors datacenter health using preexisting management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers as needed
- Provides guidance and training to other technical staff
- Performs other tasks as assigned
- Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, its policies and procedures, the Corporate Compliance Agreement, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards
Qualifications
- College Graduate or equivalent work experience; BS in Computer Science, Industry Standard Certifications preferred
- Minimum four years of experience in Windows 2016/2019/2022 Server; two years of experience Active Directory; MS SQL 2014/2016/2017, MS IIS; two years of experience VMware ESXi in a SMB enterprise; preferred experience in AIX, Linux, and Unix environments
- Experience of load balancing technology (F5/Netscaler); experience of disaster recovery is desired
- Troubleshooting knowledge with OS, Hardware, and Software troubleshooting skills; Strong TCP/IP fundamentals including routing, subnets, network sniffing, DNS, and DHCP
- Proficiency in MS applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc)
- System awareness and tuning skills
- Documentation under ITIL standards
- Experience with Disaster Recover planning and implementation, Replication software, and Service-Now service management platform preferred
- Familiarity with MCSE 2008/2012/2016, VCP
- Strong communication, teamwork, organizational, analytical, and customer service skills
- Ability to work in team setting with cross-training and collaboration
